If memory serves back in 1994 nearly 100% of people said there is no sexual abuse in my Mormon neighborhood. Right? If yes, then the last 34 year has been a success because you have 35% now understanding - that is a huge improvement!! Am I understanding incorrectly? This seems like cause for celebration, not “sounding like a broken record”. The question becomes: how can we reach more of the 65%????
The book was published in 1992, then nationally in 1993. However, you are correct. When it first came out, a local television station (KTVX, Channel 4, I think) lead the evening news with "Shocks waves blast through the Salt Lake Valley as a new book is released called ....."
It was shocking that we brought to light that child sex abuse happens in our communities. (Especially Mormon neighborhoods and communities). So, you are correct, 35% awareness in 30 years is an significant improvement.
(It's simply so horrific, I just wish so very much more people weren't in denial about it)
Thank you for the comment and insight. And, I'm trying channel my disappointment and/or frustration to more positive endeavors to continue this ongoing battle.
