Shortly after the Twin Towers fell on 9-11, I was in a therapy session with a renowned doctor who taught at the University of Utah.1 This doctor was visibly upset at the attack on the US—as we all were at the time—however my therapist was uncharacteristically agitated. Her hands were shaking. She spoke of getting a gas mask and waiting for the next bomb to drop.
Before my therapy session, I wrote extensively in my journals about the attacks. I was in utter awe of those brave women and men who raced into the collapsing towers to try to save others. I believe most people are valiant and spring to action to save others. It might be from God, or simply programmed into our DNA to help our species survive. Regardless, those somewhat average people were elevated to heroes on that day.
Seeing my calm therapist so shook was surprising. I listened to her for a few moments, then held up my hand and said, “You do realize that children in abusive homes have this much angst every single day, don’t you?”
She paused and I saw the recognition in her eyes. She got it.
Through extensive therapy, writing, and opening my eyes to truly see the world, I’ve healed from the wounds my core development suffered by being riddled with unpredictable and erratic attacks. In many ways, I’ve learned that my development was unusual. Thank goodness: Most would die for their children.
I have healed from the abuse of my childhood. However, it’s not like it never happened. Now, when I want to relax, one of my favorite things to do is to analyze the charts on the stock market. It’s math. It’s predictable patterns and trends.
Although the market makers try to disguise what they are doing, with patience and perspective, I can usually see their patterns—their moves—or their “energy” which eventually moves the price.
Video of Fibonacci Spiral courtesy of Pexels.com Fibonacci numbers are everywhere in nature, the stock market, and probably in the trends of the childhood sexual abuse. Our data is sketchy at best, on the reporting of such events so it could take much more time to try to determine if assaults follow similar patterns as Fibonacci’s Rabbit Reproduction calculation.
I think eventually, we will learn why certain perpetrators behave the way they do. I’m sure there are specific variables that cause their broken souls to defy nature and try to dominate and torture others. But, until we know what those variables are—and what can cure them, I don’t want to give much head-space to them or their evil actions.
I will continue to dedicate a section of my life to try to help the victims and the survivors of these crimes against humanity.
If I can heal, anyone can. There is nothing special about me. If I can do it, so can you.
When I relax, I gaze at the wonder of a sunset, listen to a bird’s song of peace and safety, and view various perspectives and studies on the charts to see the underlying structure and movement of the Stock Market. It’s much more predictable than some human behavior.
Please continue to do what brings you authenticity and joy. And know, that most people are good. Most would run into a burning building to save a stranger. Most know that cooperation, kindness and love is essential for all of us. There is no other, only us.
