At the start of this year, I committed to showing the ways I’ve developed to live a more authentic, full life. My catchphrase of, “If I can heal so can you” was feeling flat to some of my beloved survivors. I decided to show the different areas that bring me fulfillment, joy (and some pain), but that healing and committing to a fully authentic life is worth it. That doesn’t mean that anyone needs to do all the things I’ve done. Please use these various aspects that I have shared as a mere example oh how you can chose to develop and create your own authentic and real life.
One of my go to traits is humor. Through extensive therapy, I learned that my sarcasm was pushing people away because I was so fearful. That didn’t mean I needed to turn into a stodgy stoic. It meant, I needed to recognize that my sarcasm and flippant verbiage could and did hurt others.
Habits, especially life long habits of interaction are difficult to change.Even now, I find myself being a smidge sarcastic. Usually, I can catch it before it flies out of my mouth.
Now, I love finding the humor in certain moments. My goal for Thursdays is to try to send a light hearted joke or video to each of you. I wanted to bring you a smile or even a chuckle.
The alleviate any confusion of intent, here is a brief outline from Psychology Today
Humor Can Relieve Stress.
Humor can have a variety of social benefits.
Having a sense of humor can make a relationship more satisfying.
The use of positive humor could help in resolving conflict.
The article also states, “While the links between humor and different aspects of physical health—such as immune function or heart health—have been explored, the evidence is largely inconclusive.”1
I’ll take inconclusive! I feel better after I have a good laugh. And, I think I feel better physically but maybe it’s just a release. Regardless, laughter and humor is a more than a tool for mental well-being. It’s become a trait of my personality and I embrace it.
Again, just because I do, you don’t need to. The only thing I know for sure is that life is sacred and beautiful (and sometimes painful) and so worth it. Stay here. Heal and continue creating your own uniquely authentic life. I promise, it’s worth it.
