Background:
On the first of April, 1992, I walked over to the ol’ Waking Owl Bookstore near the University of Utah. My heart raced as I held one copy of Paperdolls: Healing from Sexual Abuse in Mormon Neighborhoods and waited to check out. I watched several people buy a copy of our book. Interestingly, I watched one man, an employee at the U, purchase over 10 copies. I wondered why he needed so many.1
The book sold out the first day, and I was relieved I had my copy. I walked home and put it on my bookshelf. Symbolically, to be part of my life, but not front and center.2
Carol writes in the new epilogue “"THE SUCCESS OF PAPERDOLLS over the years is an indication to April and me of how hungry many people are for true accounts of child abuse. We expected to receive declamations that our story was too bizarre to be true, but there have been none. Instead, we received many responses saying,” This could be my story.”
Carol handled the majority of the press and the inquiries. She relayed the encouragement and thanks from so many who read our words. It still means the world to me. Thank you for letting us know we helped.
Our intent has always been to get this book into survivors’ hands to provide them encouragement and support. It has also been a great resource to those supporting survivors, to understand their challenges and pain.
During the last decades, a few of my friends and supporters have strongly discouraged me from re-releasing this book. Why? The utter meanness and ignorance prevalent online.
After numerous discussions, especially from a wonderful therapist who grew up in my childhood neighborhood, it was decided to try to get the book to survivors at a discounted rate, and let everyone else pay slightly more.3
Hence this website, PaperdollsCowboyBoots.com, to take your orders.

Later I found out that he was a paid legal “expert” on false memories. This man was eventually banned from testifying Utah Courts because his own children allegedly claimed he had sexually assaulted them.
I actually didn’t take it down until Carol and I decided to publish the update.
I was specially thinking of that accused pedophile buying 10 copies on the day it was released in 1992. If a perp blurting out nonsense or hurtful DARVO attacks, let ‘em pay more to get a copy.
