Shortly before my first infusion treatment, social media was filled with chatter about a supreme court nominee who allegedly sexually assaulted someone as a teenager. Many active members of the LDS Church expressed opinions that one shouldn’t be judged for what one did when one was a teenager.
The LDS Church believes one is accountable for their actions at the age of 8.
I wrote a book depicting horrendous crimes teenagers committed when I was a little girl. I know a few of those teenagers who became adults committing even more evil and egregious crimes. For me, crimes committed as a teenager does not deserve a pass. I’m certainly not an attorney, but it makes sense to me that minors appear in different courts. It is also my understanding that the hearing by the judicial committee in 2018, was more like a “job interview.” It wasn’t a trial about the alleged crimes. It was a job interview for a seat of the highest court of the land.
