A few years ago, I was walking with my four year old nephew. It was fall and were were gathering the auburn fallen leaves. He exclaimed, “I love fall! It’s my favorite season of the year!”
Quickly he asked, “What is your favorite season, Aunt April?”
I said, “Any season I’m in”
I mean it. I love every season and I particularly love the change of seasons. Every single year, I feel a leap in my heart as I watch the Irises bloom in the spring. My grandmother’s irises, still. Three were blooming on my walk this morning.
Her birthday was the 17th of May, Norwegian Independence day.
My mother said that when she was a little girl, she thought the whole country was throwing a party for her mother.
When I decided to re-release Paperdolls, I did a promo video for it. I used the poem I wrote that ended the book called, “Butterflies and April” and used the music from the Norwegian composer, Edvard Grieg. The piece is called, “Morning.”
I hope it brings you hope to love the caterpillar once you were and fly with the freedom of the butterfly you are now:
