Last summer, I gave away free copies of Paperdolls & Cowboy Boots to any of our subscribers who shared a story of a random act of kindness they’d done. Here is a wonderful act that still has me smiling:
“On a long flight from Atlanta to SLC, I heard a baby start to cry a few rows ahead of me. I looked up to see a young mother stand up to walk her baby. When she stood up, another young child started to cry. The mother looked helpless and was struggling to get her children to stop crying. I stood up, and offered to take one. She barely kept from crying herself as she handed me the baby. I swayed back and forth. The baby wouldn’t stop.
I started singing the popular song, “Happy.” Instantly, her little boy, about 3 or 4 years old, started clapping. The mother started singing and swaying with us. A group of teenagers in the middle of the plane started singing and clapping.
The baby stopped crying.
After a few minutes, the baby fell asleep.
One of the teenagers called up, “Can we keep singing?” The little boy yelled, “Yes!”
Several on the plane started laughing.
One of the best cross country flights I’ve ever had.”
